Where our clients build their new base

Most of our clients leave the United States or Canada for Latin America or the Caribbean: countries that generally leave foreign income alone, offer workable residency routes, and sit in or near North American time zones.

  • Territorial tax systems
  • Residency by income, investment or family
  • Companies and banking where they fit

How we think about it

One plan, several countries

Latin America is where most of our clients establish their new main residence. Several countries tax mainly local income, offer residency routes based on a pension, steady income or an investment, and are a short flight from home. Being close means visiting family is easy, and staying in the same time zone keeps work simple.

Where you live does not have to be where every company, trust, foundation or bank account sits. The Caribbean, Europe and Asia often hold those pieces, or offer residency and citizenship routes of their own.

A residence permit, tax residence and citizenship are three different things. US citizens remain taxable in the United States wherever they live; Canadians need to plan their departure. See leaving the United States and leaving Canada.

Companies, banking and a second base

For clients whose business or family points east: companies and banking in the UK and Hong Kong, residency in Georgia, Thailand and Malaysia.

Also on request

Mexico and Uruguay

We also advise on Mexico and Uruguay on request. Beyond residency and companies, the wider offering covers banking, structuring, asset protection and privacy, depending on the client.
